For our fourth annual Senshicon, we decided to go with a nautical theme--we could do our senshi as mermaids, sirens, sailors, or whatever, but lo and behold, most of us decided to go as pirates. We've been trying to go with "themes" rather than recreate actual art because it gives people more flexibility with their costume, so that we don't have to have multiple cosplay sweatshop weekends where we grind out costume pieces for hours (I still find those fun, but probably more for their novelty than anything else. For other people who habitually make their own costumes, probably not so much.) That being said, I'm actually not terribly creative, especially when it comes to putting together outfits, and I prefer to have a reference image when I can. "Pirate Sailor Senshi" turned up surprisingly few results, but I found an amazing fanart piece when I searched for "Pirate Sailor Moon", and decided to base my look on it.

A good 80% of this outfit came from Amazon: the jacket, the gold paint pen markers, the hat, the buccaneer pistols, the boots (it was IMPOSSIBLE to find white pirate boots, I had to buy over the knee boots and fold them over), the gloves (which I forgot at home, one of the other senshi picked me up another pair that morning on a supply run), and the pirate shirt. I got a pair of red capri pants on depop, and the purple sash is the one I made myself for our Steampunk Senshi group back in 2018. I'm a little disappointed the gold paint didn't show up well on the hat, because I tried really hard to draw the Mars symbol on it. And I hadn't finished putting the gold details on the boots, so Dana, Jackie and I took turns drawing on stars and coloring in the heels--only for all of the gold paint on the heels to be completely stripped by them sinking in the sand on the beach. I fixed them after the con just in case I ever wanted to wear them again, but really, how many other excuses does one have to be a pirate?
